Jacuzzi Brand spas have their own control language. The one that confuses owners most is FL-1 (and FL-2) — Jacuzzi's flow-fault code, telling you the system can't confirm water moving through the heater. Per the usual flow-fault chain, that's a clogged filter about eighty percent of the time, then low water, a closed valve, an air lock, scale, a tired circ pump or a failed flow switch. On the newer J-400 series, the topside is more helpful — it shows full-text messages and prompts instead of cryptic codes, so you'll often see an actual sentence describing a heater or flow condition. That's nice, but the underlying fault still has to be diagnosed; a clear message about flow doesn't tell you whether it's the filter, the pump or the switch.

The heart of a modern Jacuzzi is the proprietary Smart Heater — a titanium heater integrated with the control electronics rather than a plain bolt-in element. When it fails it's a Jacuzzi-spec part, so the diagnosis has to be right: we confirm whether it's truly the heater or a sensor, relay or starved-flow problem before quoting, because the Smart Heater isn't a cheap universal swap.
